During his theological training, he served as a grading fellow in the Department of Christian Education for one year, and in the same position in the Department of Greek and New Testament for two years.
He served as a guest lecturer at Golden Gate Seminary for two semesters. He also taught one year in the seminary extension program and two years in the supervised ministry program of the seminary.
Daugherty devoted 23 years of his life as a pastor in Hawaii and California prior to going to work with CERT International in August of 1988. While in Hawaii he was privileged to serve as Chairman of the Executive Committee for the Billy Graham Kauai, Hawaii Crusade.
He has served on various foundations, councils and boards in the community, church and denominational arenas. He served six years on the Executive Board of the San Diego Evangelical Association, of which the last three years was in the position of president.
In August 1988, he joined the staff of CERT International as Vice President, and was named president in 1991.
He has led CERT medical, dental and construction teams into the jungles of Honduras and Nicaragua, deep into the Amazon Jungle in Peru as well as up into the Andes Mountains, to the garbage dumps of Guatemala City, to remote islands in the Philippines, into the war torn areas of Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kurdistan in northern Iraq, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Russia, Ukraine, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Haiti, Dominican Republic, into the jungle villages in Ghana, Armenia, Papua New Guinea, Nepal, China/Mongolia and others.
While leading a CERT team in Malawi in October 1989, he and his team were captured by the communist Frelimo soldiers of Mozambique. Threatened with death repeatedly, the team ended up in Machava Prison in Maputo where each member was placed in solitary confinement. Through the efforts of the governments of the United States, England, and South Africa, the team was released after seven days imprisonment.
In 1992, he was caught in the miners’ riots in Bucharest, Romania . On his second trip into Bosnia, he had to flee Mostar when heavy artillery and sniper fire became too intense to assure safety for the team.
In April of 1993, a CERT team along with some other Americans was the target of an assassination plot by the communist guerrillas in Peru, known as “The Shining Path.”
Daugherty testifies to God’s wall of protection around the CERT teams, as there has never been a loss of life, or a serious injury in the existence of the organization.
In August of 1997, Daugherty moved the international offices of CERT from San Diego , CA to Crossville, TN. The Board of Directors approved the move to a less expensive area and a more central location in America .
Daugherty has a great vision for the future of CERT and its ministry of reaching out to the hurting and suffering people of this world and to give honor and glory to God for whatever can be accomplished.[/text_output]
