Jim was born in Staten Island, New York and raised in Edison, New Jersey. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy. During the course of a career that lasted almost 21 years Jim worked his way up the enlisted ranks, receiving a commission as a Naval Officer, and ultimately attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander before retiring. His military travels took him around the world to over 30 countries and he also served in Vietnam, Suez, and the Persian Gulf.

Jim holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Kansas; a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology from National University; a Masters of Biblical Studies degree from the Southern California Seminary; and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Andersonville Baptist Seminary. Since retiring from the Navy he has served as a Family Counselor, as an Associate Pastor, and as a Senior Pastor twice.

Jim’s salvation story is the classic case of a person who seemed to have everything a man could want and yet still felt empty inside. As a young adult he was a successful Naval Officer, earned a good salary, had a nice home, two new vehicles, a good wife, and four beautiful children. But deep inside he was dissatisfied with his life and felt that something was still missing. Finally, while visiting his younger brother Bob and his family, Jim noticed something in their lives that was unique and special. They seemed to have an inner sense of peace, contentment, and purpose that was missing from his life. He soon discovered that the difference was Jesus and it wasn’t long before Jim surrendered his life to the Lord.

Jim has been married to his wife Linda since 1979. They have four children, Rick, Tracy, and Adam who live in Southern California, and Tom who lives in Tennessee.

As the Vice President of Operations Jim’s work at CERT includes researching, planning, and leading mission trips; recruiting team members; speaking in American churches and at medical and dental conferences to promote the work of CERT; and he also serves as assistant to the President in the general operations and administration of CERT.
